The increase in food prices and tightening of food safety standards over the last few years has changed consumption trends and influenced consumers' food preferences. On the bright side, consumers' growing interest in the environment and social responsibility has increased demand for organic food products. Retailing and marketing such products is still in its infancy in many emerging countries, as the markets for organic food are very fragmented. The current study sets out to explore store-specific sustainable practices in organic food stores and their relationship with the stores' sales growth. With their limited understanding of sustainable practices, emerging market retailers' future success depends on investments in sustainable practices and customer relationship management programs. These programs are critical as logistics are crucial in these retailers pursuing a one-stop shop business model. By 2040, the world's population will reach 9.1 billion people, which implies a possible 40% increase in food demand. The increasing world population, rising income levels, and urbanization are changing food consumption patterns, in addition to enhancing the organic food market due to concerns about the environment and social responsibility. In recent years, consumers' interest in organic food has increased considerably. However, the issues related to food prices, food safety standards, geopolitics, and financial crises have influenced many consumers' food preferences and increased their consumption of healthy, natural, safe, and organic food.
